Riverside County criminal records can refer to different records held by different agencies. Court searches provide access to available court case information, while sheriff custody information and California Department of Justice fingerprint services answer different questions.
The Riverside Superior Court public access system is the starting point for court case information. Portal use requires account registration. A free case-number search provides register-of-actions access, while a paid name search is used to locate matching case numbers and filing dates. A self-service name search costs $1 for one name search, while court research costs $15 per name/search and provides court case-number research without copies.
A search result is not a complete criminal history, not a conviction certificate, and not a replacement for reviewing the court record or disposition.
Remote public criminal access generally provides indexes, calendars, and registers of actions. Filed documents are a separate request and may require courthouse inspection or a proper copy request. Public remote access should be treated separately from obtaining underlying filed documents through court copy procedures. Permitted portal document downloads are a separate service and do not mean all public criminal files are available online.
The Riverside Sheriff custody locator is for current custody information and is not a conviction or criminal-history record. A California DOJ record review is an individual's own fingerprint-based record process and is not a third-party criminal history request. DOJ record review uses fingerprint-based identity matching for an individual's own record, with a $25 DOJ fee; additional rolling/fingerprint charges may apply, and a DOJ fee waiver may be available. California uses BCIA8016RR with Live Scan for in-state requests and BCIA8705/FD-258 routes for out-of-state requests. BCIA8706 is the accuracy challenge route, and missing or incorrect court dispositions may require follow-up with the court filing clerk.
Available court information depends on court location and case type. Published coverage includes Riverside felonies beginning January 1990 and misdemeanors beginning January 1994. Other locations have separate dates, including Banning both case types beginning November 1996, Mid-County both case types beginning December 1996, Indio felonies beginning May 1990, and Blythe, Indio, and Palm Springs misdemeanors beginning September 1993.
A missing result may relate to coverage limits, sealing, restrictions, purging, or record availability. Verify the court, case details, and disposition rather than treating a missing search result as proof that no event occurred.
A document request is different from a case search. RI-MC002 requests are directed to the proper courthouse and may be submitted in person or by mail. A request should identify the courthouse, criminal type, names, known case number when available, approximate start and end dates, exact document and date requested, certification or exemplification needs, requester contact information, and return address.
Certified criminal copy requests use RI-MC011 routes, including eSubmit or the appropriate courthouse mail/dropbox process. Mail requests require the required return handling such as a self-addressed stamped envelope, sufficient postage, or applicable postage charge handling.
Published RI-MC002 fees include $0.50 per page for copies, $40 certification per document, $50 exemplification, and $32 off-site retrieval plus postage. Advance payment is required. Payment instructions include checks payable to Riverside Superior Court with preprinted name and address and permitted not-to-exceed amount options, or stated form card authorization where allowed.
Permitted portal document downloads have separate pricing: $1 per page for the first five pages, then $0.50 per page, with a $50 per document cap. This pricing does not mean all public criminal files are available for online download.
Restricted, confidential, or sealed copies require qualifying access. A requester must have qualifying party status with valid photo ID or a court order; identification alone does not create access. Juvenile records are unavailable through the stated mail request route. DOB or driver's-license narrowing is limited to defendants obtaining their own record with valid identification and is not a route available to third parties, including attorneys. RI-CR093 is a separate subject/statutory entitlement process and is not a public workaround for restricted records.
If a DOJ record review identifies an accuracy issue, BCIA8706 provides an accuracy challenge route with supporting evidence. Missing or incorrect court dispositions may require follow-up with the court filing clerk.
For Riverside Sheriff reports, use the appropriate Sheriff report route. CPRA requests are public-record requests subject to exemptions and redactions and are not an unrestricted personal criminal-history summary. The Sheriff custody locator provides current custody information, while report requests follow separate Sheriff channels. Pre-2000 reports route through Information Services Bureau at 951-955-2400, while 2000-present reports route through the responsible station. CPRA requests may be sent to [email protected].
